Gabrielle Union grew up in Nebraska before her family moved to southern California when she was still a child. She starting acting in the early ‘90s while still in school and went on to graduate from the University of California, Los Angeles in 1996.
Around the same time, Union had a recurring role on Sister, Sister and on 7th Heaven. In 1999, she made a splash in Hollywood with her portrayal of Chastity in 10 Things I Hate About You and as Katarina in She’s All That.
The actress’ star continued to rise as she starred in Love & Basketball, Bring It On, Bad Boys II, Think Like a Man and Think Like a Man Too. On the small screen, Union’s biggest credits include, City of Angels, Night Stalker, Being Mary Jane and L.A.’s Finest.
Outside of acting, Union has been a longtime activist for survivors of assault after she was a victim of rape at the age of 19. She has also written three books: a memoir titled We’re Going to Need More Wine, and two children’s books, Welcome to the Party and Shady Baby.
Union married former NFL player Chris Howard in May 2001, but they separated four years later. She began dating retired NBA star Dwyane Wade in 2008. The pair wed in August 2014 and welcomed their daughter, Kaavia, via surrogate in November 2018.
