Patterson, from Fort George, was swiftly transported to Bellevue Hospital, where he was initially listed in critical condition due to a skull fracture.

He remained in a coma for several days, and on Monday, Jan. 2, authorities confirmed that he had succumbed to his injuries.

Arianna Buchholz, his daughter, stated in a GoFundMe post, “Duane suffered a traumatic brain injury and was in a coma for four days.”

“The intensive care he received was unfortunately not enough to revive his mind,” she wrote. “The family is in need of emotional and financial support during this devastating time.”

Prompted by the ongoing investigation, the police are still in pursuit of the suspect, who managed to flee the scene on foot.

The suspect remained at large as of Monday, Jan. 2.
